Andre Kertesz :

Andre Kertesz was a Hungarian photographer, who later on in his career became very famous and influential for his photographs. His photographs were taken in black and white and he focused on capturing mundane objects. However he would twist them to create something more abstract and unconventional. From his photographs it’s easy to recognize that he focuses on people, the outdoors and everyday household objects. Andre Kertesz took photos from many different angles. Some were taken from a straightforward angle, while others were taken from a higher angle. Some were also taken where the subject matter was more focused on the left side of the frame than the right and vice versa. As quoted by Kertesz himself “I just walk around, observing the subject from various angles until the picture elements arrange themselves into a composition that pleases my eye.” (“André Kertész.” Artnet,). Andre Kertesz, was motivated by capturing the truth and reality. He never liked to hide the true nature of what he was photographing even if he would distort it a little later. He was inspired by the idea of creating something new from what already exists and this can be found in many pieces of his work.

Dorothea Lange:

Dorothea Lange was an American photographer, whose photos were very influential during the Great Depressions. Lange’s photos focused on the unemployed men during the Great Depression, immigrants, people who are struggling and people in general. Dorothea decided to capture these images in black and white. Her photos were taken from more of a straight on angle as she did focus on capturing people's faces. However sometimes she did take them from more of a side angle to get more into the picture. Dorothea Lange was known as a documentary photographer and therefore we can say her inspiration came from what was going on in the world. She started to gain popularity when the Great Depression came around and started to photograph the truth of what was going on around her. She photographed people and their hardship which could be seen on their faces. She focused on documenting the social injustice that was going on in the world through her photos.
